Faith Kipyegon has warmed up for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by setting a new world record in the 1 500 metres at Meeting de Paris after finishing the race with an astonishing time of 3:49.04.
Jessica Hull of Australia finished second with a personal best time of 3:50.83.
Great Britain’s Laura Muir also ran a personal best time of 3:53.79 to cross the finish line in third place.
Kipyegon, making her first appearance in this year's Diamond League, smashed her previous record in the event by 0.07 seconds.
The victory makes only the first female athlete to run the 1 500 metres under 3:50 minutes twice. She became the first woman, and so far the only woman, to run a sub 3:50 time in the event when she broke Genzebe Dibaba's world record of 3:50.07 when she clocked 3:49.07 to win the Florence Diamond League stage of the event on June 2, 2023.
The race was Kipyegon's third of the year having won in the 1 500 metres and 5 000 metres national trials for the Olympic Games with times of 3:53.98 and 14:46 28 respectively.
Kipyegon, chasing an unprecendented third Olympic gold medal in the 1 500 metres, will also be competing in the 5 000 metres at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, making it the first time she is competing in more than one event at an international competition.
