Kenya Police Bullets defeated Simba Women 3-2 on Monday morning at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during their semifinal encounter in the 2024-25 CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA region qualifying tournament.
The Beldine Odemba-coached side got off to a good start with Lucy Kwekwe scoring in the 31st minute to put the Kenyans 1-0 up.
However, it was a Kenyan on the opposing team, Corazon Aquino, who almost proved as her brace put the Simba Women on the brink of qualifying for the final.
Aquino equalised for the Tanzanians in the 38th minute before completing her brace in the 55th minute.
Unbowed, Kenya Police Bulleta fought on and equalised in the 75th minute through Diana Wacera before Rebecca Okwaro scored the winner in the 83rd minute.
Kenya Police had qualified for the semifinal of the 8-team tournament after finishing second in Group A with four points.
The 2023-24 FKF Women Premier League started the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Yei joint Stars of South Sudan before defeating Rwanda’s Rayon Sports 1-0 in their second match.
Their third match did not go according to plan as they lost 2-1 to CBE of the host nation. Despite that loss, Kenya Police had already done enough to qualify for the semifinal.
Bullets will now wait for the result of the second semifinal pitting CBE of Ethiopia and Kawempe of Uganda to know their opponents for the final.
