By |

Kenyan riders are in Marrakech, Morocco, for this weekend’s Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) Championship. The event brings together over 200 riders from 10 countries, including Uganda and South Africa.

The wait is over, and it's all systems go as Kenyan riders make their return to the international stage this weekend in Marrakech, Morocco, for the highly anticipated Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) Championship.

Kenya has enlisted a team of 17 riders for the prestigious event, scheduled for October 25-27. Meanwhile, neighbors Uganda have entered a contingent of 27 riders across four categories, aiming to make their mark on the competition.

Over 200 competitors from 10 nations, including South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, will battle it out in what’s often called the 'Africa Cup of Nations' of motocross. Leading Uganda's charge is Stav Orland, the defending MX2 African Champion. In the 2023 edition in Cape Town, South Africa, Orland dominated all three heats in the MX2 category, securing the overall title.

Uganda finished fifth in the overall standings last year, but Orland's triumph underscored his rigorous training and unwavering dedication. Arthur Blick Junior, a former team captain and now team manager, is optimistic about the team's prospects.

In preparation for this year's MXOAN, Ugandan and Kenyan riders participated in specialized training sessions led by FIM instructor Dearden Andre at Garuga/Busika and Jamhuri Park, respectively.

Zambia's veteran MX rider, Dan Watson, is brimming with confidence as he gears up to represent his country. South Africa, the reigning champions, are determined to defend their title amidst expectations of an action-packed weekend filled with thrilling races and warm Moroccan hospitality.

South Africans have high hopes for their team and believe they will make a strong showing in this highly competitive event.
