During the launch, Murkomen emphasized the importance of creating clear pathways for talent development at all levels, from junior to senior athletes. "This initiative aligns with the mission of the taskforce we recently established to review the Sports Act 2013 and enhance our sports policy," he stated.
Murkomen also highlighted that the program aims to ensure education and sports work hand-in-hand, rather than being seen as competing interests. "This will ensure that sports and education do not have to be mutually exclusive but complement each other to build strong careers and propel our country to its rightful place on the global stage."
The camp will feature a range of disciplines, including athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, rugby, hockey, tennis, table tennis, and chess. Additionally, to promote inclusivity, there will be specialized training for wheelchair basketball, amputee football, goalball, and deaf basketball.
Murkomen also revealed that top-performing participants will be selected for further specialized training and announced plans to expand the program in the coming year. The expansion will include training for more athletes and an additional focus on coach development.
“Our children need not choose between education and sports to have rewarding careers,” Murkomen added. “With a comprehensive review of the Sports Act, we are building a robust framework for talent development that spans from primary school to the highest levels.”
