Quba Mosque reopens after Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, SUPKEM broker peace
The mosque, which was temporarily closed two weeks earlier by the county security committee led by County Commissioner Mohamed Ramadhan Mwabudzo, has now reopened its doors to worshippers.
Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) leaders and county security officials have successfully brokered peace at Quba Mosque, ending a month-long standoff that had unsettled the local community.
The mosque, which was temporarily closed two weeks earlier by the county security committee led by County Commissioner Mohamed Ramadhan Mwabudzo, has now reopened its doors to worshippers.

The intervention follows weeks of unrest between factions of the Jama'at Tabligh group, culminating in a viral video showing two imams leading prayers simultaneously - a move widely condemned for breaching Islamic principles and the sanctity of worship.

Determined to restore calm, SUPKEM, led by national secretary Abdullahi Salat, along with prominent Garissa scholars, spearheaded mediation efforts that brought the feuding factions together.
Governor Nathif hailed the resolution as a victory for unity and faith.
"Garissa will never again witness feuds among Quba-based scholars," said Nathif. "This move reflects our shared commitment to peace, moral integrity, and the spiritual growth of our community."

Residents welcomed the reopening, calling it long overdue amid rising tensions.
Abdullahi Keinan, a member of Jama'at Tabligh, said the reconciliation brings healing and a renewed sense of direction for the community.
"Let's move forward with renewed purpose, ensuring that the freedom to worship remains uninterrupted and sacred," urged Abdullahi.
