According to reports from WABetaInfo, a platform that tracks WhatsApp updates, the feature will introduce an “audio-only” mode for video calls, allowing users to participate without sharing their video feed.
This could be particularly useful in situations where users prefer not to be on camera due to privacy concerns, poor lighting, or a weak internet connection.
While WhatsApp already allows users to disable their camera during a video call, this new option would provide a seamless way to join a call without ever turning it on in the first place.
It would function similarly to traditional voice calls but within the video call interface, ensuring smoother transitions between video and audio-only communication.
However, this feature has not yet been rolled out to the public but it is in testing for both Android and iOS.
WhatsApp has yet to officially confirm its release date.
