TikTok now allows parents to see, block their teens’ followers

Among the new additional updates on the feature is the Expanded Family Visibility, which enables parents to track who their teen follows, see who follows them, and block any problematic accounts.
TikTok has rolled out new features designed to enhance its family pairing security guidelines, aiming to boost parents’ efforts in managing and supporting healthier digital habits for their teens.
Launched five years ago, family pairing is a feature on the platform that allows parents, guardians and teens to customise their safety settings based on individual needs.

Through family pairing, a parent or guardian can link their TikTok account to their teen's account and set controls.
Among the new additional updates on the feature is the Expanded Family Visibility, which enables parents to track who their teen follows, see who follows them, and block any problematic accounts.
Another important update is the Time Away Scheduling feature, which allows parents to schedule specific periods during which their teens can’t use the app, such as during school hours, bedtime, or family time.
“Teens can request extra time, but parents have the final say,” TikTok said.
Additionally, the Proactive Reporting Alerts to Parents feature, allows teens to notify a trusted adult when they report a video for potentially violating TikTok's guidelines.
This feature, according to TikTok, will be available even without Family Pairing enabled, ensuring that parents or guardians are informed about their teen's activity and encouraging ongoing conversations between teens and their families regarding their TikTok experience.
Nevertheless, the Wind-Down Feature seeks to encourage teens to log off at night, beyond 10 pm.
It works by displaying a full-screen reminder with soothing music for users under 16 who are on TikTok after 10 pm.
If they continue using the app, they will encounter a second, more difficult-to-dismiss prompt.
Commenting on the new updates, Adam Presser, Head of Operations &Trust and Safety at TikTok, said safety remains at the core of everything they do.
“These new updates are part of our ongoing commitment to empowering families with the tools they need to foster healthy digital habits,” Adam said.
“By enhancing family pairing, strengthening our industry partnerships, and introducing innovative well-being features, we’re ensuring that young users can explore, create and connect in a safe and positive online environment."
