YouTube introduces new AI tool to help creators steer clear of copyrighted music

Currently, the feature is being rolled out gradually to select users in the US who are part of the YouTube Partner Programme while a global expansion is expected as the platform refines the tool based on user feedback.

YouTube has unveiled a new AI-powered music creation tool aimed at helping content creators sidestep one of the platform’s most common pitfalls: copyright strikes.

The tool, integrated into YouTube’s Creator Music marketplace, allows users to generate royalty-free instrumental tracks by simply typing in descriptive text prompts, such as mood, instruments and the kind of video they are working on.

For many creators, securing music that will not trigger copyright claims has long been a frustrating and costly process.

The traditional licensing can be expensive and confusing, especially for small or independent YouTubers, who just want to use a good background music for their videos.

YouTube’s latest innovation promises a faster, safer and more affordable alternative by offering tailor-made soundtracks cleared for monetized use.

“This tool is designed to give creators peace of mind,” YouTube said in a statement.

“No more worrying about whether background music will get your video demonetized or taken down.”

The AI tool is part of a broader push by YouTube to integrate generative AI into its platform as it follows earlier efforts like ‘Dream Track,’ which let users create short music clips mimicking the styles of popular artists.

However, unlike Dream Track, which sparked debate over artist likeness and voice cloning, the new tool focuses solely on instrumental music, steering clear of those controversies while offering broader creative freedom.

Currently, the feature is being rolled out gradually to select users in the US who are part of the YouTube Partner Programme while a global expansion is expected as the platform refines the tool based on user feedback.

The release signals a significant shift in how creators may approach music production in the future.

As demand for original, fast, and copyright-safe content continues to rise, tools like this could soon become essential in every creator’s toolkit.
