Google to unveil Pixel phones, watch, buds and foldable on August 20

The annual showcase has become a staple for unveiling Google’s flagship hardware, and this year’s event is shaping up to be one of its most anticipated yet.

Google has officially set the date for the Pixel launch event for August 20, 2025.

The invite, which was sent out on Wednesday, confirmed that the 'Made by Google' event will take place in New York City at 1:00 pm Eastern Time (ET), which is 8:00 pm East African Time (Nairobi), promising to unveil “the latest on our Pixel phones, watches, buds, and more.”

The annual showcase has become a staple for unveiling Google’s flagship hardware, and this year’s event is shaping up to be one of its most anticipated yet.

Pixel 10 series to lead the lineup

At the centre of attention will be the debut of the Pixel 10 smartphone lineup, which includes the base Pixel 10, the upgraded Pixel 10 Pro, and the larger Pixel 10 Pro XL.

This year, the base model is rumoured to take a notable step forward with the addition of a third rear camera, marking a first for a non-Pro Pixel.

The change suggests Google is closing the feature gap between its standard and premium models, possibly bringing enhanced zoom or macro capabilities to the broader market.

Also expected is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Google’s second-generation foldable and reportedly its most rugged yet.

Leaks suggest this model may feature a completely dustproof design, in addition to the water resistance already seen in previous Pixel devices, a move that would set a new standard for foldable durability.

The Pixel Watch 4 and new Pixel Buds

Alongside its smartphones, Google is likely to reveal the Pixel Watch 4.

According to early reports from Bloomberg, the new smartwatch could include a larger battery and a slightly thicker build, likely aimed at extending battery life while maintaining a premium design.

While details on Google’s next-generation earbuds remain scarce, rumours point to the introduction of Pixel Buds 2a, a more budget-friendly alternative to the company’s flagship audio offerings.

These could offer a simplified design and essential features at a lower price point, making them more accessible for everyday users.

This event will be the first major test of Google’s new Tensor G5 chip, expected to power the entire Pixel 10 lineup.

Built on a smaller, more efficient 3nm process, the chip is rumoured to offer big gains in performance, battery life, and on-device AI, something Google has been emphasising more with each product generation.

AI integration will likely be a central theme again this year, as the company continues pushing features powered by its Gemini AI platform, such as smarter voice controls, real-time transcription, enhanced image editing, and predictive assistance.

With Google aiming to strengthen its position in a fiercely competitive market, against the likes of Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus, the August 20th event could mark a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Pixel brand.

The launch will be streamed live across Google's platforms, including YouTube.
