Instead, users are greeted with story-style slides that showcase their top tracks, favourite artists, listening streaks, and even a “Musical Passport” highlighting the global origins of the music they love.
From playful graphics to shareable social media cards, the Recap turns a year of music into a story you can see, swipe through, and share.
But the real innovation is the AI chat. Dubbed “Ask Music,” it allows listeners to ask questions about their habits, like which genre dominated their year, what their most unusual tracks were, or even to generate personalised playlists from overlooked songs.
It is part analytics, part creative companion, and entirely interactive. Other platforms are watching closely.
Spotify Wrapped, which is expected in early December 2025, continues its tradition of top songs, artists, and minutes listened, but has yet to introduce AI chat.
Apple Music Replay will also return with integrated in-app summaries of top tracks and albums, while Deezer continues to offer monthly snapshots rather than a full annual review.
None yet matches YouTube Music’s combination of interactivity, personalisation, and shareable storytelling.
“For listeners, the takeaway is simple: 2025 is not just about what you listened to, it’s about how your music reflects your year, your moods, and even your personality.”
