KNEC releases 2023 TVET examination certificates for collection

KNEC advised that any queries regarding the certificates must be submitted in writing through the heads of institutions.

For thousands of graduates from Technical, Vocational, and Educational Training (TVET) institutions, the long wait for their certification is finally over.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has released the 2023 examination certificates for Business and Technical Courses, bringing relief to students eager to secure jobs or further their studies.

“The 2023 March, July, and November 2023 business and technical certificates are ready for collection by heads of institutions or their designated assistants,” KNEC stated in a statement issued on Friday.

KNEC advised that any queries regarding the certificates must be submitted in writing through the heads of institutions. The council also provided an alternative option for making inquiries online through the KNEC portal, where specific instructions have been outlined.

Additionally, KNEC issued a 60-day deadline for the submission of queries, warning that those who fail to comply with the set timeframe will be subjected to a penalty fee of Sh500.

“The queries must reach the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) within sixty (60) days after release of the certificates by KNEC, i.e on or before June 30, 2025,” the council stated.

Business courses

Business courses offered in TVET institutions include business management, accounting and finance, human resource management, supply chain and logistics management, and cooperative management.

Technical courses encompass fields such as electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, automotive engineering, as well as ICT and software development.

The process of releasing TVET examination certificates has often faced delays, with challenges such as slow processing, unpaid fees, accreditation issues, and bureaucratic obstacles hindering timely issuance.

While KNEC typically releases exam results within three to six months, certificates can take six months to over a year to be processed and distributed.

In the past, government intervention has been required to expedite the release of these certificates. In 2023, former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu directed the immediate release of over 11,000 pending TVET certificates, addressing concerns over prolonged delays.

The latest move by KNEC is expected to facilitate a smoother certification process, ensuring that graduates from TVET institutions can access their documents without unnecessary delays.
