Uganda's 10 confirmed cases have been linked to Ebola's Sudan strain which does not have an approved vaccine.

The advocates alleged that his conduct was not an isolated incident, citing both his refusal to grant a constitutionally urgent hearing to Advocate Eron Kiiza and his participation in human rights abuses as evidence.

The local NTV broadcaster also reported late on Sunday that Besigye had been taken to the health facility and that the area was under "tight security".

Uganda's health ministry said in a statement late on Monday that of the nine confirmed cases one person had died, seven were being treated in a hospital in the capital Kampala and one was in a hospital in the eastern city of Mbale, near the Kenyan border.

The trial, which uses a vaccine provided by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), is seen as a critical step in controlling the outbreak.

The trial will target those at the highest risk of infection, including individuals who have had close contact with confirmed or deceased Ebola patients.

This follows a landmark Supreme Court ruling on January 31, which decreed that civilians should no longer be tried in military courts.

Museveni described the court's decision as wrong and said military prosecutions reinforce the civil courts and had helped in pacifying Karamoja, a region in Uganda's northeast plagued by armed violence.

The ruling will offer relief to a key opposition figure, Kizza Besigye, who has been undergoing trial by the country's general court martial, his lawyer Erias Lukwago said, adding that the defendant would now not appear in court on Monday as originally scheduled.

The patient, a male nurse at the Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, had initially sought treatment at various facilities, including Mulago, as well as with a traditional healer.
