Uganda police crackdown on violence during Bobi Wine's NUP party campaigns
On October 3, during a campaign in Mayuge district, another officer was attacked, seriously injured, and had his phone stolen. The matter was registered under Mayuge CRB 797/2025.
The Uganda Police Force has reported multiple attacks on its officers and property during National Unity Platform (NUP) campaign events across the country.
While most participants have conducted themselves lawfully, a small number of individuals have repeatedly provoked police, engaged in violence, and caused public disorder.

Authorities on Friday said arrests have been made, particularly in Mbarara, targeting repeat offenders.
In Busia district, an NUP convoy assaulted an officer, leading to a case filed at Busia CPS under CRB 1038/2025.
On October 3, during a campaign in Mayuge district, another officer was attacked, seriously injured, and had his phone stolen. The matter was registered under Mayuge CRB 797/2025.
Violence continued on October 8 at Bikoma Primary School in Kyankwanzi, where a detective constable was attacked by supporters.
Police intervened, but the main suspect escaped before a case of assault could be opened.
On October 21, in Kisita Town Council, Kakumiro, the windshield of a police vehicle was damaged.
On October 28, police officers following the NUP presidential convoy from Lira City to Alebtong District were assaulted.
Their vehicle tyres were punctured, and property was stolen. The next day, October 29, bodyguards of a NUP candidate assaulted Edibu Emmanuel in Abim District.
On November 5 in Kiruhura district, a journalist with Tayari Television was also attacked while covering campaign activities.
Police emphasised that not all campaign participants engage in violence.
“Many conduct themselves respectfully and lawfully. Police action targets those who repeatedly confront officers or incite unrest,” the statement said.
On November 7, authorities in Mbarara district carried out several arrests, detaining individuals with prior criminal records, including those who assaulted officers, destroyed property, or obstructed police officers on duty.
The Uganda Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting all candidates but warned that criminal behaviour will not be tolerated.
Candidates are urged to discourage violence among their supporters, respect legal frameworks, and maintain peace throughout the campaign period.
