Nairobi County dismisses reports on Uhuru Park closure
"During these protests, property in the park was vandalised, including the caravan, aeroplanes, sculptures, and toilets," Njeri explained.
The County Executive for Green Nairobi, Maureen Njeri, on Sunday, dismissed reports alleging that Uhuru Park was still under closure.
Njeri, stated that contrary to the reports of closure, Uhuru Park has registered a high influx of visitors in the last two weekends, with numbers hitting up to 2,000.

According to the County Executive, Uhuru Park was reopened on September 28, 2024, after it was vandalised by protesters during the infamous anti-government protests triggered by the withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.
This was a minor setback to the park, which was handed over to Nairobi City County, from the National Government, on April 28, 2024.

"During these protests, property in the park was vandalised, including the caravan, aeroplanes, sculptures, and toilets. After investigations by relevant authorities, the park was cleared and cleaned up with the doors reopening on September 28, 2024, and has remained fully accessible to the public," Njeri said in a statement.

Njeri said visitors were welcome to pass by the park, which offers scenic views of the Nairobi skyline, including Upper Hill and the Nairobi Expressway. She noted that guests can now explore the botanical trail, restored historical monuments, and peaceful ponds and alcoves, with spacious seating areas for relaxation.
She added that entry to the park is free, with visitors required to present identification for security purposes. The park also remains available for event bookings, which can be arranged for a fee.

Meanwhile, Central Park, opposite Uhuru Park, is still undergoing major reforms undertaken by the National Government.
The uplift is scheduled to be completed in December 2024.
