Kariokor's Umeme FC appeals for help

The team needs Ksh 30,000 to register for this season's FKF Nairobi East County League

Nairobi East County League side Umeme FC is appealing for help to finalise registration for the 2023/ 2024 season.

The team that trains at the iconic Umeme Ground in Ziwani, Kariokor, requires Ksh 30,000 to register for the league that kicked off in November last year. Ksh 10,000 for affiliation to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Ksh 1000 for the master card, Ksh 15,000 is the participation fee while Ksh 4000 will go into printing cards.

According to the team coordinator Daniel Otiato, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nairobi East Branch has threatened to exclude them from fixtures going forward.

"FKF has been gracious enough to allow us play our initial matches this season but have now asked us to pay up or risk being omitted from upcoming games," Otiato opened up to Eastleigh Voice,

"Our team basically helps keep the youth around Ziwani and the larger Kariokor area to stay active as they sharpen their skills and develop their talents. We have several success stories as several of our players are now featuring in top clubs in the country and it (Umeme FC) is really is a ray of hope for the youth in this area,"

"We are calling upon well-wishers to help us. We need to pay the full amount to continue playing in the league." He added.

Umeme's case is not unique as a source at the federation has confirmed that many teams across different tiers in the Kenyan football landscape are struggling to meet the costs of playing in the leagues.
