Turkana County on Friday unveiled a private sector engagement framework (PSEF) aimed at fostering sustainable urban development and economic growth in the region.

The initiative, supported by the Kenya Urban Sector Programme (KUSP), is projected to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors leveraging the potential of business to contribute to infrastructural development, service delivery and community well-being.

The launch of the framework brought together key stakeholders including government officials, business owners and community representatives.

Solomon Ambwere, the national coordinator of KUSP, said the transformative potential of the public-private partnership programme piloted in Turkana County will serve as a model for other counties in Kenya.

"This framework will enable local businesses to drive meaningful development and contribute to the counties’ overall progress," he said.

He said some projects piloted ahead of the launch of the framework in the urban areas within Turkana yielded a positive impact of the private-public partnerships.

Faith Aletia, the County Executive Member for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Area Management, said the framework will enhance meaningful development and economic growth in Turkana County.

She emphasised the importance of aligning private sector initiatives with community priorities.

"The PSEF provides a platform for businesses to actively participate in development projects and drive positive change," she said.

The Lodwar Municipality Manager Benjamin Tukei also expressed optimism about the framework’s potential for job creation and economic growth.

Community representatives who spoke at the event expressed their commitment to promoting the public-private partnership which they said would successfully achieve its intended positive achievement.
