Aga Khan IV to be buried on Sunday in a private ceremony in Aswan, Egypt

A homage ceremony for Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the new spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, is scheduled for Tuesday in Lisbon.

The funeral of His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon, Portugal.

The ceremony, which starts at 11 am, will be attended by invited guests, including members of the Aga Khan family, leaders of the global Ismaili community, the Aga Khan Development Network, international dignitaries, and Portuguese government officials.

It will be live-streamed on The Ismaili TV, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

The Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Aswan, Egypt, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a homage ceremony for Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the new spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, is scheduled for Tuesday in Lisbon.

During this event, senior Ismaili leaders will pledge their allegiance to the 50th Imam in a private religious gathering.

In Kenya, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday extended the government's goodwill wishes to Prince Rahim Aga Khan V as he assumes leadership.

Philanthropist

After signing the condolence book at the Ismaili Council for Kenya offices, Mudavadi described His Highness Aga Khan IV as a leader "with a very strong personality and broad philanthropic footprints in many parts of the world.'

The Aga Khan IV succeeded his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan III, as Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims in 1957 at the age of 20.

Since then, he has dedicated his efforts to improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable populations, emphasising the view of Islam as a faith that teaches compassion and tolerance and that upholds human dignity.

His Highness the Aga Khan is the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.

He has been deeply engaged with the development of countries around the world for more than 60 years through the work of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
