More countries endorse Haiti’s call to transition MSS Mission into UN Peacekeeping

The Haitian Transitional Presidential Council's request for the ongoing Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to transition into a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission has been endorsed by the Organisation of American States (OAS).
OAS is the premier regional forum for political discussion, policy analysis and decision-making in Western Hemisphere affairs. It brings together leaders from nations across the Americas to address hemispheric issues and opportunities.

The endorsement was announced as part of resolutions adopted during the OAS Permanent Council's regular meeting on November 13.
The Organisation resolved to support the transition "in order to provide more sustainable assistance for Haiti's long-term stability, security, rule of law, and democratic governance."
Additionally, members urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to expedite support for the request while continuing to promote robust coordination between the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and the MSS mission.
The council also encouraged its member states to consider contributing to the full deployment of the mission's personnel in Haiti, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2751 (2024), and to continue coordinating in-kind and material contributions through existing mechanisms, including the UN Trust Fund and the International Security Coordination Group.
Kenya, the lead nation in the MSS mission, has also called for its transition to a UN mission to ensure its troops receive adequate compensation and the necessary resources for successful operations.
The council further pledged to recognise the support provided to Haiti by regional and international partners to the MSS mission and emphasised the importance of strengthening the Haitian National Police (HNP) to restore law and order and facilitate the country's return to normality.
The Organisation also committed to supporting Haiti in achieving political stability, democratic governance, peacebuilding, and related objectives.
