Hotel and entertainment venue owners warned to curb loud nighttime music

Businesses risk having their licences revoked or amended to prevent them from operating at night.

Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding has warned hotels and entertainment establishments in residential areas in the county against playing loud music at night, stating that owners will be arrested for breaking the laws.

The administrator stated that he had received several complaints from the public about rising noise pollution from the establishments blaring loud music till late at night, preventing them from enjoying their sleep.

He said the businesses should either comply or install soundproofing to ensure they do not interfere with other businesses and the peace of residents within the vicinity.

"One has to shout while having conversations in their homes and children cannot study because of the noise," Omoding said.

He singled out a hotel within the outskirts of Isiolo town that he said was notorious for playing loud music including when no events are happening there.

"We want the businesses to be mindful of the welfare of residents in the neighbourhood and will not spare anyone in the crackdown," he maintained.

Businesses risk having their licences revoked or amended to prevent them from operating at night.

Omoding said the establishments should emulate local churches that have adhered to the directive.

At the same time, Omoding said the crackdown on second-generation liquor and drugs will be sustained until the region is free of illicit substances.

Aside from closing bars and pubs near schools and residential areas, the administrator stated that premises operating outside of the specified hours, as well as those violating their certificates by providing services not authorised by their licences, will face legal action.
