The new prices were effective on Monday, February 10, 2025, as announced by Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Rono.
The government has revised the price for sugarcane upwards after an uproar by farmers.
Cane growers will now be paid Sh5,300 per tonne from Sh5,000 per tonne.

“The interim committee held its first meeting on February 7, 2025, to review the minimum sugarcane price. The committee approved an upward adjustment of the minimum sugar cane price from the current Sh5,000 per tonne to Sh 5,300 per tonne, effective February 10, 2025,” reads a letter by the PS.
The letter by the PS was addressed to the managing directors of various sugar companies and was copied to the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mutai Kagwe.
