For a simpler and more visual editing experience, the updated video editor introduces a timeline-based interface, allowing users to trim, reorder, and merge multiple clips in a single project.
Unlike the previous setup, which was slightly complex, actions such as trimming and adding text or music are now organised in one unified workspace.
Google describes it as “everything you need, right where you expect it”.
Users will also take advantage of highlight video templates, which automatically assemble clips into polished, shareable reels.
With built-in music options and customizable text overlays, beginners can produce videos that feel professionally edited.
On Android, the new editor replaces the older version as the default editing tool, streamlining the experience for anyone working with single clips or multi-clip projects.
iOS users will receive the redesign soon; however, some features, such as templates and text customisation, are initially only available on Android.
For users who rely on Google Photos for storing memories, the redesign transforms the app from a simple photo library into a versatile video creation platform.
By integrating easy-to-use editing features, Google Photos competes with standalone apps like CapCut, Edits and InShot, keeping users within its ecosystem for both storing and sharing memories.
The update is being rolled out gradually.
