Entering the game, the Lions of Chinguetti were eager to secure their first victory in Africa’s premier competition after seven unsuccessful attempts. Despite a setback in the opening fixture, they aimed to turn the tide.
Gelson Dala, the former Sporting Lisbon striker now playing for AL-Wakrah in the Qatar Super League, set the tone by opening the scoring for Angola in the 30th minute. However, Sidi Amar Bouna equalized with a strike thirteen minutes later. Undeterred, Dala netted another goal five minutes into the second half, restoring Pedro Gonçalves’ charges' lead. The 22-year-old Gilberto added another goal, extending the Sable Antelopes' lead to the joy of their passionate supporters in the crowd.

Mauritania's Aboubakary Koita, a forward for Sint Truidense VV, injected excitement into their supporters with a spectacular thunderbolt goal in the 58th minute, narrowing the score to 3-2. Despite the pressure, the 2010 quarter-finalists held firm to secure the win and set the stage for a thrilling group finale against Burkina Faso.
