"We're unveiling Kenya's finest to go lead Africa," Gachagua on Raila's AUC candidature

"I have listened to the people on the ground and they are in support of Raila Odinga's candidature," the DP said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed why Kenya presented Opposition leader Raila Odinga as its African Union Commission chairman candidate.

The DP who was speaking at State House, Nairobi on Tuesday said that because the continent deserves the best, Raila was best fit to become the AU chairman.

"We are here to unveil Kenya's finest to go and lead the continent. I want to tell leaders here from Africa and representatives, we present Raila because our motherland deserves the best," Gachagua said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that Kenya is presenting Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission chairmanship because the continent deserves the best. The DP has insisted that Raila is the finest person to lead Africa at the AU.

The DP further stated that he has listened to many Kenyans and they are in support of Raila's candidature for the seat.

"I have listened to the people on the ground and they are in support of Raila Odinga's candidature. Kenyans are united to a man for the candidature of Raila Odinga to lead AU," Gachagua said.

"As a truthful man, I had nothing against him (Raila). It’s only that we were competing for the same position between him and my boss. But now that he is going for a bigger seat in Africa, all of us and the rest of Kenya are behind him."

"Unmatched passion"

Showering the Opposition leader with praises, the DP said that Raila's passion for Pan-Africanism was unmatched and knows no limits.

"The passion and zeal of Raila in Pan Africanism is well documented. Passion knows no age, knows no limit," Gachagua said.

Gachagua said that Kenya is presenting Raila for the post because the continent deserves the best. The DP insisted that Raila is the finest person to lead Africa at the AU.

The AU Commission elections will be held in February next year.

Outgoing AUC chair Moussa Faki has served two four-year terms at the helm of the continental body. Kenya formally submitted Raila's bid in July.

President William Ruto unveiled the secretariat that will spearhead Raila's campaigns for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

The Secretariat will be led by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Singóei and former Kenyan Ambassador to the United States, Elkanah Odembo.

Ruto said the secretariat will consist of members from all the five regions in Africa.

"To assist in making the case for Raila Odinga, I also unveil the secretariat which will be led by Kenya's Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Singóei and Ambassador Elkanah Odembo," he said.
