Eldoret Sports Club to host 2025 Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships
The 2025 Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships will take place on 8 February at Eldoret Sports Club, following a venue change from the Kenya Prisons Training College. The event will bring together over 500 elite athletes, marking a key fixture in Kenya’s athletics calendar. This year’s edition introduces an afternoon race schedule, alongside entertainment and a medical camp. Athletics Kenya has also revamped the prize money structure, with the senior 10km winners set to earn Sh200,000.
The 2025 Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country Championships will be held on 8 February 2025 at Eldoret Sports Club, as confirmed in a press release released on Monday, 3 February 2025. The venue was selected over the Kenya Prisons Training College, where the championships had initially been scheduled to take place on the same day.
The event is expected to attract over 500 elite athletes who will compete for supremacy, not only showcasing Kenya's dominance in track and field but also serving as vital preparation for the upcoming athletic season.

The championships come on the back of an exciting AK Cross Country Series, which featured six intense legs hosted in Machakos, Kapsokwony, Iten, Olkalou, Bomet, and Kisii. This event also follows closely after the Kenya Prisons, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and Kenya Police Forces Cross Country Championships, as well as various regional championships.
This year's edition will introduce a new format, with races set to commence in the afternoon. This scheduling adjustment allows for an entertainment segment and a medical camp to be held prior to the main events, enhancing the overall experience for both athletes and spectators.

In contrast to the previous AK Cross Country series that featured six legs, this championship features three race categories, including the 10 km senior men's and women's races, the under-20 men's 8 km and women's 6 km races, and the 2 km loop race for both men and women.

To add more excitement to the competition, Athletics Kenya has revamped the prize money structure to ensure that top performers receive substantial rewards.
In the senior 10km races, the winner will receive Sh200,000, with the second and third-placed athletes earning Sh130,000 and Sh100,000, respectively. The awards for those finishing in fourth to tenth positions are Sh70,000, Sh50,000, Sh40,000, Sh30,000, Sh20,000, and Sh10,000, respectively.
In the under-20 category, the top three finishers will take home Sh140,000, Sh90,000, and Sh70,000, with additional prizes for athletes who finish in the top ten. Meanwhile, in the 2 km loop race, the winner will claim Sh50,000, with the second and third positions earning Sh40,000 and Sh30,000, respectively.
