Protests in Mogadishu after man who burnt pregnant wife gets death sentence
The protestors, mostly mothers, argued that the Mogadishu Court acted on public emotions and did not give Sayid Ali a fair chance.
A section of Mogadishu residents held demonstrations to protest against the death sentence of Sayid Ali Moalim Daud, who was convicted of burning his pregnant wife to death.
Hundreds of demonstrators walked from Hodhan District to Seybiyaano Junction carrying placards denouncing Wednesday's judgment. The demonstrators also chanted songs in support of Sayid Ali.

The protestors, mostly mothers, argued that the Mogadishu Court acted on public emotions and did not give Sayid Ali a fair chance.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment delivered by the court of appeal and called on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed to intervene.
"Our son was not given a fair judgment. All we want is justice for our son," said a mother who participated in the demonstration.
Some of the demonstrators warned that they might take matters into their own hands if the court does not overturn the death sentence.
"We have men too. If the court does not stop the death sentence it handed to our son, we also have men," said another mother who spoke to the media.
The Appeal Court in Mogadishu upheld the death sentence of Sayid Ali on Wednesday.

The court's decision follows weeks of hearings and supports the original verdict issued by the Banadir Regional Court in March 2024.
Presiding judge Saiid Ali announced that the court was convinced by the evidence presented, confirming Sayid was guilty of the offence.
"After listening to the case, this court upholds the judgement delivered by the regional court," read part of the judgement.
Sayid's lawyer, Ali Halane, expressed his dissatisfaction with the verdict and announced plans to appeal to the highest court in the country.
"I am not satisfied with the death sentence verdict issued by the court of appeal. I will move to the highest court," Ali noted.
The Banadir Regional Court's Chairman, Salah Ali Mahamoud, on March this year handed down the death sentence to Sayid.
Salah cited the evidence gathered in the case, which proved that Sayid had intentionally burned his wife.
