Kenya Development Corporation to inject Sh200m for SMEs funding in Lamu

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy expressed the county's reliance on an industrial park to catalyse economic expansion and create market access for local farmers.
The Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) has earmarked Sh200 million to fund small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Lamu, aiming to tap into the unexplored investment opportunities spanning various sectors within the county.
During an Economic Investment Forum held in Lamu, Dr. Sakwa Bunyasi, Chairman of KDC, disclosed this initiative aimed at financing SMEs to leverage the ongoing large-scale projects by both the county and national governments.

His administration has identified pivotal sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, agribusiness, healthcare, energy, tourism, and infrastructure for potential SME investment.
SMEs seeking access to these funds must submit comprehensive proposals to KDC for evaluation and potential financing opportunities.
KDC will now engage the county in exploring financing opportunities for the projects through public-private partnerships.
