Murkomen warns politicians against disrupting Harambee Stars' quarter-final match at Kasarani
Speaking in Murang'a during a press briefing on Tuesday, Murkomen said the National Police Service will enhance security to ensure the Harambee Stars' clash with Madagascar proceeds without disruptions.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to politicians, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, to refrain from disrupting the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final match at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, August 22.
Speaking in Murang'a during a press briefing on Tuesday, Murkomen said the National Police Service (NPS) will enhance security to ensure the Harambee Stars' clash with Madagascar proceeds without disruptions.
"I want to thank the National Police Service for doing a fantastic job to secure Kasarani on Sunday to ensure that we abide by the CAF rule, and we know that on Friday we will have a very big match, and I want to assure the citizens of Kenya that we will do the same in the upcoming game," Murkomen stated.

"Any interference from political actors, both in the country and those who are coming in, will not be tolerated during this match. We want peace to prevail in our nation," he added.
CS Murkomen also urged Kenyans to continue supporting the national team, while assuring that the government is coordinating with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to implement all required security measures for a smooth match.
"We are waiting for the directions to the CAF, and once that is done, we will ask Kenyans again to ensure that they support Harambee Stars and ensure that they abide by the rules, and see how seamless it will be," he added.
Meanwhile, Gachagua, the leader of the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP), is expected to return from the United States on Thursday, August 21.
Thousands of supporters are expected at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 8:00 am to receive him, according to DCP Deputy Party leader Clephas Malala.
Malala said Gachagua will lead a 'mother of all peaceful processions' from the airport to the CBD and eventually to Kamukunji grounds for a rally.
He claimed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has been informed and urged the police to provide security rather than interfere.
Malala further warned against detaining Gachagua on arrival, noting that any such move could trigger protests and disrupt ongoing tournaments.
"If you apprehend Gachagua the following day, you will see demonstrations, and yet the Harambee Stars will be playing on Friday. I'm sure that if Gachagua is apprehended, we will not be able to see the Harambee Stars play on Friday for the quarter finals," he said.
