Probe places suspect Julius Osoro at scene of violent Eastleigh robbery

Forensic investigations established that Julius Osoro was at the scene where Adan Mohamed was attacked and his Sh4 million stolen.

Detectives have placed one person at the scene of a violent robbery in Eastleigh, Nairobi, in which a businessman was seriously wounded and his Sh4 million in US dollars stolen.

Forensic investigations established that Julius Osoro was at the scene where Adan Mohamed was attacked by people on a motorcycle, according to Sergeant Fredrick Obiero of the Starehe office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Osoro had been arrested alongside his wife, Charity Njeri Kimani, and her cousin, John Michael Muturi, at Greenpark estate in Athi River, Machakos County.

Sgt. Obiero urged Makadara Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi to allow him to detain Osoro for seven more days and release Kîmani and Mûturi.

The two will report to the Starehe DCI offices on Fridays to continue assisting with investigations.

When they arrested the suspects, the police recovered a Ceska Pistol with seven bullets, cars suspected to have been stolen, multiple logbooks and assorted ATM cards.

Sgt. Obiero told the court that a ballistic report had not yet been received from the DCI headquarters and neither had details of the cars nor logbooks from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Gichobi released the two and granted the orders Obiero sought.

He is investigating a case of robbery with violence, contrary to Section 295 as read with Section 296 (2) of the Penal Code.

The investigator wants to establish whether the gun was used to shoot the businessman in the robbery reported at the Eastleigh North Police station vide OB26/30/3/2024.

The NTSA is helping the DCI identify the owners of the cars, logbooks and ATM cards allegedly found at Osoro's home.

The attackers ambushed Adan near the Bulshow Carwash along Muratina Road, blocking his boda-boa rider and shooting him, and then taking his $30,635 and fleeing.

The businessman was shot once in the neck, with the bullet exiting via the upper spinal cord. He remains under intensive care after suffering serious spinal cord injuries in the incident three weeks ago, but Obiero told the court that he can record his statement this week following arrangements with the hospital.

Two other suspects were arrested at a showroom in Mombasa and later, their bodies and that of a woman believed to be the lover of one of them, were found at City Mortuary in Nairobi.

They include a man who previously worked for a bank in Eastleigh.
