Autopsy of slain Kitengela protester registered as road accident victim pushed to Monday

The autopsy exercise for Charles Owino, the slain Kitengela protest victim whose body was controversially registered at City Mortuary as a victim of a road accident, has been pushed to Monday next week.

Rights activist Hussein Khalid and the deceased's father George Obienge on Friday spent the day at the City Mortuary where they were told by the pathologists and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) that the exercise would be undertaken next Monday.

The autopsy for the deceased youth has grabbed the interest following records at City Mortuary indicating that he had died as a result of a road accident and not shooting as witnessed during the protests that rocked Kitengela on Tuesday.

"We have been told to come back on Monday for the autopsy following the busy schedule of the pathologists here," said Obienge.

On Friday, the pathologists, led by Johansen Oduor, were conducting autopsies on the bodies of Kware dumpsite victims.

"The pathologists here have decided to begin with bodies of the Kware dumpsite in Mukuru Kwa Njenga. We are vigilant on these autopsies because we do not expect or want any foul play," said Khalid.

The deceased's father called for justice, saying that his son's shooting was captured on camera and that his body getting registered at the mortuary was a big shock to him.

"I am perturbed that my son's body was registered at the mortuary here as an accident victim. This is not true because everyone saw his brutal killing," said Obienge.

At the mortuary, details are emerging of bodies in Nairobi as having died from totally different circumstances and even locations.

Obienge's son ended up recorded as having died from an accident in Juja. This was not the only case of wrong details entered in the morgue registry.

According to Obienge, his son Charles Owino, last seen in Kitengela, according to the family, and believed to have suffered a gunshot to the head with a visible entry point on his body, was recorded as having died from an accident.

Additionally, two other victims who died as a result of a shooting by police in Kibwezi in Makueni County have also been surprisingly recorded to have lost their lives from road accidents.
