Armed with a crowbar and a knife, the robbers assaulted Aisha, inflicting a fatal head injury above her right eye.
Her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan, was also injured while attempting to defend his mother.
The attackers stole various items, including a Samsung A15 mobile phone, a 65-inch Samsung TV, a sound system, an iPad, and a Samsung A21 phone, before fleeing into the darkness.
According to a senior police officer, the attackers appeared to target the victims deliberately.
“This is a sad incident indeed. Preliminary reports indicate that two robbers, one wearing a mask and armed with a crowbar, the other with a knife, broke into the house through the kitchen and attacked the deceased. When the son came to the rescue, he was also injured. At this juncture, we are pursuing several leads, and it seems to be a mission targeted specifically on the victims for reasons yet to be established,” the officer said.
Aisha’s son managed to drive his mother to Premier Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. He remains hospitalised in stable condition.
The homicide team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and officers from Bamburi Police Station visited the scene to collect evidence. Police officers also visited the hospital in the morning as part of their inquiries.
“We are coordinating with the family and extending our condolences over this tragic incident,” the senior officer added.
“While we cannot reveal more at this point to allow the family time to grieve, we will provide a detailed report once investigations are complete. Meanwhile, we will enhance security patrols in the area as a deterrent measure.”
