Mombasa to lead SHA digital transformation
The transformation will commence with a 14-day rollout that aims to equip all government medical practitioners in Mombasa with laptops, enabling them to access and manage patient records digitally.
Mombasa County is set to become the first county in Kenya to benefit from the digital transformation of the healthcare system under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
This is according to Senior Advisor to President Ruto's Council of Economic Advisors, Moses Kuria who announced the development today during the launch of the Taifa Care Express in Mombasa.

"Mombasa is leading the way in our digital healthcare transformation, which will ensure that every citizen has access to efficient healthcare services," said Kuria.
As stated by Kuria, the transformation will commence with a 14-day rollout that aims to equip all government medical practitioners in Mombasa with laptops, enabling them to access and manage patient records digitally.
This is expected to streamline operations, improve record-keeping, and enhance the overall efficiency of the region's healthcare system.
Kuria also highlighted the employment of 2,500 Community Health Partners (CHPs) as part of the rollout. These partners will play a crucial role in accelerating public enrolment into the new system.
"We are not just transforming healthcare, we are creating jobs and building a network of community health partners who will bridge the gap between technology and the people," he added.
Kuria further appealed to Mombasa residents to register themselves under the health program which has come under a lot of fire since its launch on 1st October 2024 by Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Deborah Barasa.
"As individuals, we often call for fund drives each time medical expenses overwhelm us or our loved ones. SHA is a game-changer in this regard because it will allow us to do this at the national level so that quality healthcare is accessible to all citizens regardless of their prevailing economic conditions," he said.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said the programme was their commitment to ensuring accessible, affordable, and dignified healthcare for all.
"In 2024 alone, our health facilities served over 1.6 million patients, yet only 264,000 residents are currently registered under the SHA program. This year, we embark on an ambitious journey to register every eligible resident and ensure that no one is left behind," he said.
