Mombasa MCA Fatuma Kushe demands action on title deeds, warns of protest over delays

Fatuma said the Mombasa County Assembly had already passed the required policies and laws, and urged Lands CEC Mohamed Hussein Amadoh to act without further delay since responsibility now rests with the county executive.

The Mombasa County Government has been accused of failing to resolve long-standing title deed issues, with land matters reduced to recycled campaign rhetoric repeated every election cycle.

Kadzandani MCA Fatuma Kushe said it was shameful that, six decades after independence, many residents still live as squatters in their own country.

“This endless talk and playing with people’s lives and emotions must stop. Every election year, we dust off the same promises about land like old campaign posters, yet almost seven decades after independence, some Kenyans are still squatters. It is an embarrassment,” she said.

The MCA noted that the Mombasa County Assembly had already passed the necessary policies and laws, stressing that responsibility now lies with the county executive through the Department of Lands. She challenged Lands CEC Mohamed Hussein Amadoh to act without further delay.

“We want title deeds. Can we not receive them before the next elections, or must we place a reminder in the 2032 calendar?” Fatuma asked.

She urged Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir to prioritise issuing title deeds for Bullo in Kadzandani, cautioning against turning the land question into a political tool.

“Let us not politicise people’s lives. Those who built Soweto are poor; many of them sell potatoes to survive. They should not be forced to raise money for lawyers. What is the purpose of electing a Senator, who is a lawyer by profession, if he cannot assist the people?” she asked.

Kushe further warned that if the issue is not resolved, leaders and residents from the area will be forced to stage a protest at the State House.
