Death toll rises to 25 as six more bodies exhumed in Binzaro Village cult probe

In addition to the graves, investigators have so far retrieved 21 body parts scattered across the site since the exercise kicked off last week.

Homicide detectives have uncovered six more bodies during ongoing exhumations at Binzaro village, situated close to the Shakahola forest.

The latest recovery raises the death toll linked to the new cult probe to 25.

In addition to the graves, investigators have so far retrieved 21 body parts scattered across the site since the exercise kicked off last week.

Officials said the remains would undergo post-mortem examinations and DNA analysis to determine how many victims they represent.

Government pathologist Dr Richard Njoroge confirmed that the bodies were retrieved from four separate graves.

“We have also collected a skull not far away from one of the graves. We have also collected many body parts that were around the perimeters of the graves,” he explained.

Dr Njoroge noted that all fragments will be processed before undergoing DNA testing to help identify the victims.

Kilifi County Commissioner Josphat Biwott, who addressed residents at Kwa Binzaro, urged community members to work closely with authorities to safeguard the expansive Chakama ranch and alert security agencies of suspicious activities.

“We have talked to the locals, to strengthen community policing and Nyumba Kumi, which is going on in small groups and includes locals and the herders,” Biwott said.

He added that investigations into the suspects already in custody are still ongoing.
