Governor Gideon Mung’aro announced the closure, emphasising the necessity of the measure for safety and repair purposes.
"It has come to our attention that the recent cyclone has had a significant impact on several Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres within the county," Mung’aro stated.
He noted as a precautionary measure to safeguard individuals and facilitate essential repairs and evaluations, all educational activities at the establishments have been halted with immediate effect and will remain suspended until Monday, May 27, 2024.
In addition to the closure of ECD centres, the county government has also suspended all marine-related activities, including fishing, until further notice to ensure the safety of residents.
Governor Mung’aro acknowledged the disruptions these measures might cause but stressed their importance.
"We acknowledge the potential inconvenience this may pose, however, the well-being of our children and all Kilifi County inhabitants takes precedence. Our team is actively engaged in efforts to reinstate normalcy and will provide regular updates on our progress."
Residents are urged to comply with directives from local authorities, including the Meteorological Department, and to prioritise safety during this period.
