Police believe these operations are connected to a larger drug trafficking network smuggling cannabis from Tanzania into Kenya.
Police in Kwale County have intercepted a vehicle carrying bhang worth Sh17 million and arrested one suspect in an operation on Saturday.
The operation, conducted along the Samburu-Kinango road, targeted a green van transporting approximately half a tonne of cannabis sativa.

Detectives arrested the driver of the van at the scene. However, another suspect in the convoy managed to escape.
According to police, the consignment was en route to a woman who police identified as a known drug distributor based in Diani.
“The cannabis had been sourced from suppliers in Tanzania and passed through the Isebania border point in Migori County,” the police report stated
The driver of the van was transferred to the port police in Mombasa. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Mariakani Law Courts on Monday, July 22, 2024.
Police have linked the seizure to another major bust last week, where detectives in Bamburi's Fisheries Estate arrested four individuals and seized over half a tonne of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh16.5 million. The suspects were apprehended last Friday.
“The detectives meticulously tracked the vehicle as it travelled through several counties, maintaining a low profile to avoid detection. Upon reaching Bamburi's Fisheries Estate, the suspects were arrested, and the drugs were confiscated.”
