The ambitious project, led by the Canadian firm ConKrite, marks a significant shift in the county’s development trajectory, positioning it as a burgeoning hub for investment and modernisation.

The agro-city initiative was officially announced following a high-level meeting between ConKrite’s CEO, Nicolas Del Valle, and Tana River’s Governor, Dhadho Godhana.
The discussions highlighted this project's critical role in advancing the county's urbanisation agenda.
“Our aim with this agro-city is to catalyse a new phase of development in Tana River that fosters economic resilience and offers sustainable livelihoods. This project is not just an investment in infrastructure but an investment in the people of Tana River,” Del Valle said.
Integration
The proposed agro-city is envisioned as a multifaceted development that will integrate modern agricultural practices with urban living. It is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, particularly for the youth and women, while also enhancing the county’s agricultural output.

The project will include residential, commercial, and agricultural zones, designed to create a self-sustaining community that aligns with both environmental and economic sustainability goals.
Governor Godhana, who has long championed the need for urbanisation to drive the county’s growth, hailed the project as a game-changer. He noted that the agro-city would be instrumental in transitioning Tana River from a rural county into a competitive urban centre, capable of attracting further investments.
“This is a landmark project for the Tana River. The agro-city will not only stimulate our local economy but also improve the standard of living for our people. This collaboration with ConKrite underscores our commitment to fostering development that benefits every county resident,” he said.
He said the Canadian firm’s involvement in the project is seen as a strong endorsement of Tana River's potential as an investment destination. “ConKrite has committed to ensuring that the agro-city meets international standards of urban development, with a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and long-term economic viability. The firm’s experience in similar projects across the globe positions it well to deliver on these ambitious goals.”
ConKrite and the County Government pledged to work closely together, ensuring that the development is in harmony with the county’s broader objectives.
