ODM leaders urge Muturi to present corruption evidence against Ruto to authorities

The ODM leaders emphasised that anyone with evidence of corruption or misconduct against public figures should not use it as a political tool but should report it to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders have criticised former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, accusing him of making corruption claims against President William Ruto for political gain.

Last week, during an interview with NTV, Muturi labelled Ruto as unfit to be Kenya’s leader, accusing him of being marred by corruption and a dangerous character. He said that Ruto was behind the controversial Adani deal, alleging that the President’s involvement in the scandal is a clear example of his corrupt practices.

Following these claims, the leaders are calling on Muturi to present any evidence of wrongdoing to the relevant authorities, such as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), rather than using the allegations for political leverage.

Speaking at the Eid Baraza in Mombasa on Saturday, the ODM leaders emphasised that anyone with evidence of corruption or misconduct against public figures should not use it as a political tool but should report it to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation.

They pointed out that institutions like the EACC and DCI are equipped to handle such cases and ensure justice is served.

"Anyone who has evidence of ill-doing against the people of Kenya should not use it for political gain. They must take it to the right authorities, such as the EACC and DCI for proper investigation and justice (to be done),” said Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir.

The ODM leaders further voiced concerns over Muturi’s failure to act on the evidence, questioning why he had not presented it to the authorities if he truly had proof of wrongdoing.

The leaders emphasised that such matters should be dealt with through the legal process rather than being exploited for political purposes.

“Justin Muturi has made strong claims. We urge him to take any evidence he has to the relevant authorities to ensure a transparent investigation so that the people of Kenya can know the truth,” they stated.

The party also called for a motion to be introduced in Parliament to discuss the issue, ensuring corruption claims are addressed transparently and fairly.

During the interview with NTV, Muturi expressed disbelief over Ruto’s public stance against corruption.

“When I hear William Ruto speaking about corruption, I start wondering, who is this person talking about corruption? Is it because he is corrupt himself?” Muturi wondered, going on to describe Ruto as “irredeemably corrupt”.

He cited multiple examples of alleged corruption but chose not to detail specific incidents, but he mentioned the controversial Adani deal. Muturi claimed to have insider knowledge regarding the deal and further alleged that Ruto was directly involved in it.

“I know Ruto is clearly behind it. His advisor, Adam Mum, invited me to attend COP 28 in Dubai in 2023, where I received significant information related to the Adani deal,” he said, detailing how the deal had emerged through discussions with Ruto’s aides.
