Eastleigh’s BBS Mall to stay open until 2am during Ramadan, plans 24-hour operations in final days

The decision aims to accommodate the needs of shoppers and worshippers who observe late-night prayers and partake in suhoor, the pre-dawn meal.

Business Bay Square (BBS) Mall in Eastleigh, the largest shopping mall in East and Central Africa, has extended its operating hours until 2 am during this holy month of Ramadan.

The decision aims to accommodate the needs of shoppers and worshippers who observe late-night prayers and partake in suhoor, the pre-dawn meal.

Dalmar Abdi, the Chief Marketing and Communication Officer of the Mall, stated that the extended hours allow people more time for shopping and dining.

Many restaurants within the mall remain open late to cater to visitors who break their fast and those seeking suhoor before dawn.

"It is to allow people to have suhoor here. Restaurants are open, and every business is allowed to operate at will," Dalmar said.

He further revealed that in the last ten days of Ramadan, the mall plans to remain open 24 hours a day. This move is expected to benefit worshippers attending late-night tahajjud prayers in the mosque within the mall.

Currently, the mosque inside BBS Mall attracts thousands of worshippers each night for Tarawih prayers, which are performed after breaking the fast. Many people can be seen heading toward the mall after iftar and leaving late after prayers.

Shoppers and worshippers have welcomed the extended hours, citing the convenience of accessing food, drinks, and retail stores late into the night.

"After the Tarawih prayers, I like having a cold Boba tea, and sometimes I go for coffee. It’s amazing being able to get them at that time," said Najma Abubakar, one of the women who regularly attend Tarawih prayers at the mosque.

Ramadan is a period when many people remain active at night, and the extended hours at BBS Mall are expected to attract more visitors.

The mall, covering 130,000 square meters, is the largest in the region and has transformed Eastleigh’s commercial landscape. Known for its wide range of local and international brands, the mall houses international retailers such as Giordano, Linton’s Beauty World, Pizza Hut, Galito’s, and Artcaffe.

It also features over 10 banks, more than 20 restaurants, 1,500 parking slots, hospitals, and various retail outlets.

BBS Mall is the only shopping complex in Kenya with such a large parking capacity. It also offers 24-hour security, uninterrupted water and electricity supply, and backup generators.

The planned 24-hour operations at the mall are expected to further support worshippers and shoppers who engage in night-time religious and commercial activities.
