Exclusive: Suspects behind robbery and shooting of Eastleigh businessman found dead

The three are reported to have travelled to Mombasa to purchase a motor vehicle with the Sh3.9 million loot that was stolen from Adan at the time of the robbery, from where they were arrested.

Three suspects linked to the viral robbery and shooting of 26-year-old Adan Ali Mohamed along Muratina Street in Eastleigh on March 30 are dead.

The bodies of the three, two men and a woman were found at the city mortuary on Sunday where they had been booked as victims of drowning.

Reports indicate that the bodies were initially recovered at a river in Lari, Kiambu County where they were picked by the police and booked at the mortuary.

The three are reported to have travelled to Mombasa to purchase a motor vehicle with the Sh3.9 million loot that was stolen from Adan at the time of the robbery, from where they were arrested.

How their bodies were later found in a river in Kiambu remains a mystery.

They have been identified as Fredrick Kopo from the Huruma area in Nairobi, Jaylen Kibe who was on Tuesday buried at the Kariokor Cemetery, and Esther.

Sources said Kopo was badly injured with one missing eye and a broken leg.

Detectives probing the incident had placed him at the scene of the shooting claiming he was the one who pulled the trigger that seriously injured Adan in the neck.

His accomplice Kibe was traced to Mombasa in the company of the third suspect, only identified as Esther.

During the incident that attracted a public uproar over rising insecurity in the city, Adan had just left the BBS Mall where he had gone to deposit the money but found the bank closed and decided to return home.

For his convenience, he opted to hire a bodaboda unaware that he was being trailed.

Along Muratina Road, just a few minutes from the Mall's entrance, the rider carrying the gunman sped past him and stopped, allowing the assailant to approach the victim.

The gunman was captured on CCTV cameras demanding the bag carrying the cash and when Adan hesitated, he was shot at close range in the neck.

Doctors said the bullet injured the spinal cord and exited at the back.

As a result, Adan fell off the motorcycle and his rider remained confused as the gunman grabbed the cash, wrapped it in green paper, jumped onto his waiting motorcycle, and drove away.

Witnesses rushed Adan to the nearby Health Gate Hospital where he was admitted.

At the same time, the DCI has confirmed the arrest of three robbery suspects and recovered a firearm from them.

"As detectives heighten crackdowns on armed thugs that have become the nightmare of city dwellers in the Capital, three notorious robbery suspects have been rounded up in Kilimani and Athi River, a firearm recovered among other stolen properties," the DCI said.

The three, 39-year-old Julius Osoro and his two alleged accomplices John Michael Muturi (38) and Charity Njeri Kimani (34) are reported to have been involved in multiple robberies since last year in various parts across the city.

The suspects were detained at Pangani police station pending their arraignment in court on Thursday.
