Simple steps to making a creamy cappuccino at home

Whether it is a chilly morning or a mid-afternoon slump, this comforting drink offers the perfect pick-me-up.

A fresh cup of cappuccino in cold weather is deeply comforting; it signals a much-needed pause, a moment of calm amid chaos.

While cafes and restaurants remain popular stops for caffeine lovers, more people are choosing to bring the café experience home.

With just a few simple ingredients and basic kitchen tools, you can easily create a creamy cappuccino in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

Freshly brewed strong coffee or espresso - 1 shot (about 30-40 ml)

Milk (whole milk preferred) - ¾ cup (180 ml)

Sugar (optional) - to taste

Cocoa powder or cinnamon (optional garnish)

Steps to follow:

Step 1

The foundation of any good cappuccino is strong, high-quality coffee. While an espresso machine is ideal, you can alternatively use:

A pot for a stovetop espresso-like brew

A French press with extra coffee grounds to increase strength

Or even instant espresso powder in a pinch

Step 2

Pour the hot, strong brew into your favourite coffee cup

Step 3

The magic of cappuccino lies in its rich, foamy milk. For the creamiest result, use whole milk because its higher fat content creates a luxurious, velvety foam.

If you don’t have a frother, gently heat the milk on the stove or in the microwave; avoid boiling. Pour the warm milk halfway into a clean jar, seal with the lid, and shake vigorously for 30 to 60 seconds to create froth.espresso

Remove the lid and microwave the frothed milk for an additional 30 seconds to stabilise the foam.

Using a frother or French press: Heat your milk, then either froth it with a hand-held frother or vigorously pump the French press plunger until frothy.

Step 4

Now, pour the steamed milk into the brewed coffee, holding back the foam with a spoon.

Once most of the milk is poured in, gently spoon the creamy froth on top to create that signature three-layer cappuccino: strong coffee at the bottom, smooth milk in the middle, and fluffy foam on top.

Step 5

For an added touch of cafe flair, sprinkle cocoa powder, grated chocolate, or cinnamon on the foam.

And just like that, your creamy homemade cappuccino is ready.

Serve and enjoy with a warm cookie or muffin!
