FKF postpones start of Premier League matches amid transition challenges
FKF acknowledged the ongoing restructuring process which has left crucial standing committees such as those handling leagues and competitions referees and player status non-operational.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced that the FKF Premier League initially slated to resume on January 4-5, 2025 has been pushed to a later date.
The postponement is as a result of the elections conducted on December 7, 2024, where the leadership of FKF changed hands. These elections left the federation in a transition that has largely affected the running of the league.

"Following the recent football elections held on December 7, 2024. Football Kenya Federation finds itself in a transition period that has largely affected the running of our leagues, more so the top league, the FKF Premier League," FKF said in a statement.
In the press release, FKF acknowledged the ongoing restructuring process which has left crucial standing committees such as those handling leagues and competitions referees and player status non-operational.
"Currently, vital standing committees such as leagues and competitions, referee, player status, among others, which are a direct tie-in to the running of the top, and other leagues, are non-existent," the statement said.
These committees are vital for the seamless management of the leagues, creating an urgent need for their reconstitution.
As a result, the FKF has postponed the FKF Premier League's match day 15 fixtures initially scheduled for January 4-5, 2025. The decision was made during a recent executive meeting, with the federation citing the need to finalise the formation of the committees during a national executive meeting set for January 7, 2025.
"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, especially considering that some of the postponed games were scheduled for live coverage," said the statement.
The federation emphasized its commitment to ensuring the smooth running of the leagues once the restructuring is complete. New dates for the postponed fixtures will be announced in due course.
This development comes at a time when stakeholders and fans alike are keenly observing how the federation navigates this transition period.
