Fallen volleyball star Janet Wanja honoured by Kenya Pipeline Club
Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club has announced the retirement of jersey number 7 in honour of Janet Wanja, a volleyball icon who passed away last night in Nairobi. Wanja, celebrated for her remarkable career as a setter, succumbed to gallbladder cancer.
Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club will retire the iconic jersey number 7 in honour of Janet Wanja, a volleyball legend who passed away last night in Nairobi. Wanja succumbed to a rare gallbladder cancer while receiving palliative care.
Wanja, a celebrated setter, wore the number 7 jersey from 2005 to 2019 after joining Kenya Pipeline from KCB in 2004. During her time at the club, she won four Kenya National Volleyball League titles and earned several medals in ten African Club Championships.

Sang also thanked organisations such as the Kenya Volleyball Federation, the National Olympic Committee, Football Kenya Federation, and the wider sports community for their support during this difficult time.
The company described Wanja as a leader and a source of inspiration both on and off the court.
The 40-year-old setter also played for the national team, Malkia Strikers, from 2004 to 2019. She was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer a few months ago, shortly after returning from the Paris Olympics, where she served as a trainer for the national team.
