Kenyan match officials Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe have been appointed to officiate the first leg of the CAF Champions League final between Egypt’s Pyramids FC and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

The match will be played on Saturday, 24 May, in South Africa. Cheruiyot will serve as First Assistant Referee, while Yiembe takes up the role of Second Assistant Referee. The second leg is scheduled for Sunday, 1 June, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo. Both matches will kick off at 8:00 p.m. East Africa Time.

The two are among Kenya’s most experienced officials, with assignments across major CAF and FIFA competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations, FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Olympic Games, and previous editions of the CAF Champions League.

Yiembe has also been named among the referees for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from 14 June to 13 July. He recently secured a US visa after an earlier application was denied, clearing the way for his participation in the global tournament.
