FKFPL: Seven-star show flattens hapless Tusker in title race shocker

Kenya Police FC tightened their grip on the FKF Premier League title race with a hard-fought win over FC Talanta, as rivals Tusker and Gor Mahia stumbled on a dramatic weekend of top-flight action.
Kenya Police FC surged six points clear at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) table after a gritty 1-0 win over FC Talanta on Sunday afternoon in Machakos, on a day when their title rivals faltered dramatically.
Having stumbled midweek with a 2-1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz, the law enforcers needed a response, and they got it. Against a Talanta side that had just humbled Tusker, Police held their nerve in a tight affair to claim all three points and take control of the title race with two rounds of matches remaining. The victory moved them to 61 points, tightening their grip on the summit as the season approaches its dramatic conclusion.

Elsewhere, what was expected to be a fierce battle to keep Tusker FC’s title hopes alive turned into an outright humiliation. Sofapaka ran riot at Dandora Stadium, hammering the 11-time champions 7-1 in one of the most lopsided contests of the campaign. The early signs of trouble were evident when Edward Omondi opened the scoring in just the third minute with a composed finish. Ten minutes later, Wyne Messi added a second before Jack Onganya struck twice, his second coming right on the stroke of halftime, to send Tusker into the break trailing by four goals.

The nightmare continued in the second half as Rodgers Kipkemoi converted a penalty in the 55th minute, extending Sofapaka’s lead to five. Though Tusker managed to pull one back at the hour mark, the brief moment of respite was quickly overshadowed. Omondi completed his brace before Onganya returned to seal a hat-trick and pile on further misery, capping off an unforgettable performance for Sofapaka and an equally forgettable afternoon for Charles Okere's side. The loss left Tusker stuck at 55 points, watching the gap to Police widen as their title aspirations took a heavy blow.
Gor Mahia, the defending champions, also missed a golden chance to close in on the leaders. Facing relegation-threatened Murang’a Seal at St. Sebastian Park, Gor struggled to break down their opponents and settled for a frustrating 0-0 draw. The result moved them to 54 points with a game in hand, but with Police finding winning form again, every remaining fixture will carry enormous pressure.
In Gusii, Shabana’s faint hopes of a league triumph were dealt a crushing blow following a 1-0 home defeat to Mara Sugar. A 41st-minute own goal by defender Cyrus Oucho proved the difference, handing the visitors a vital lifeline in their relegation fight and leaving the Glamour Boys clinging to the last thread of their title dream. Should Police win their next game, Shabana will be mathematically eliminated from contention.
The action was no less intense in the early kickoff at Dandora, where Kakamega Homeboyz claimed a deserved 2-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks. Brian Eshihanda powered in a header from an Eston Omengo delivery in the 75th minute to break the deadlock, and Moses Shumah sealed the victory in stoppage time with his 17th goal of the season, tapping in from Henry Omollo’s cut-back.
At Kenyatta Stadium, Nairobi City Stars and Posta Rangers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Owen Mboya fired Rangers ahead in the 38th minute, but Vincent Otieno Owino levelled the contest midway through the second half. The point could prove vital for City Stars in their battle to escape the drop.
Meanwhile, Mbaraki Stadium witnessed a dull affair as Bandari and AFC Leopards played out a goalless draw, neither side able to find the breakthrough in a match of few chances.
