Olunga leaves Al Duhail after historic goal-scoring run
Kenya's national team captain Michael Olunga has officially left Al Duhail SC after three seasons, bringing to an end a prolific stint in which he became the club’s all-time top scorer with 130 goals. The Qatari side confirmed his departure on Wednesday, thanking him for his impact both on and off the pitch.
Kenyan striker Michael Olunga has left Qatari club Al Duhail SC after the expiry of his three-year contract, departing as the club’s all-time leading scorer with 130 goals.
Olunga, 31, joined Al Duhail in January 2021 from Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol for a reported €6 million. He made an immediate impact, scoring a hat-trick in his third appearance — a 6-0 win over Al Ahli in the Emir of Qatar Cup.

In the same year, he finished as the top scorer in the AFC Champions League despite Al Duhail’s early exit. Over three seasons, Olunga became a central figure at the club, helping them win domestic titles while cementing his reputation as one of the most prolific forwards in the region.
Al Duhail confirmed his departure in a statement released Wednesday, thanking the Kenyan international for his service.
“The management of Al Duhail Sports Club extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Michael Olunga, the club’s all-time top scorer, for his outstanding contributions,” read the statement.
“Olunga was an example of professionalism and discipline on and off the field and we confirm that the club’s doors will remain open to him.”
Olunga's next move remains unknown.
