Shabana claim second straight FKF Premier League win after beating Bandari 1-0

Shabana FC extended their perfect start to the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bandari at Mbaraki Sports Grounds in Mombasa on Sunday, September 28.

The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute when Harambee Stars midfielder Brian Michira struck for the visitors.

The well-taken goal sent the Tore Bobe camp into wild celebrations, cementing their place as the only team with maximum points after two rounds.

Bandari, who had beaten Shabana 3-1 in their previous meeting, started brightly in front of a lively home crowd. They nearly took the lead inside the opening quarter-hour when Justine Omwando unleashed a long-range effort, but Ngeleka reacted quickly to push it wide. That proved the only shot on target in a cagey first half filled with half-chances rather than clear openings.

Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock before Michira’s strike. In the 34th minute, David Sakwa weaved through the Shabana defence but dragged his shot wide. Soon after, Austine Odongo failed to capitalise on a poor clearance from Ngeleka, missing with the goal at his mercy. Former Shabana striker Darius Msagha also squandered a headed chance just after the restart.

Despite Bandari’s pressure, Shabana held firm. Goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili commanded his box with authority, while the disciplined backline absorbed late waves of attack to secure victory and move to the top of the table.

Meanwhile, at Gusii Stadium, newly promoted APS Bomet endured another tough introduction to top-flight football, falling 2-0 to Murang’a Seal.

The hosts took the lead comically after 15 minutes when defender Joel Masibo sliced a clearance over his own goalkeeper for an own goal. Despite showing glimpses of intent, Michael Nam’s side struggled to recover and rarely troubled Seal’s defence.

Murang’a Seal sealed the win in stoppage time when Lewis Wanjala rose highest to head in from a corner. The result leaves Bomet rooted to the bottom of the table after two defeats, both marked by costly own goals, while Seal celebrated their first win of the season.
