Gor Mahia humble Police as Shabana end winless run as Homeboyz drop points

Gor Mahia rise to the top with a clinical win over Police, Shabana end their five-match drought, while Homeboyz drop crucial points at Bukhungu Stadium.

A football-packed Sunday in the Sportpesa League saw Gor Mahia assert their title credentials with a commanding win over defending champions Kenya Police FC, Shabana FC break their winless streak in Nairobi, and leaders Kakamega Homeboyz drop points at home against a resilient Murang’a Seal side.

At Nyayo National Stadium, record champions Gor Mahia delivered a clinical display to hand Kenya Police FC their first defeat of the season, winning 2–0 in a high-stakes “Serikali vs Sirkal” derby.

Felix Oluoch opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, tapping home from Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw’s low cross to give K’Ogalo a dream start. Gor continued to dominate possession, their swift passing and pressing unsettling the Police backline.

The pressure paid off in the 30th minute when Musa Shariff doubled the advantage with a stunning finish following a clever exchange with Adu-Kwaw.

No way through

In the second half, Police tried to push forward but found no way through a compact Gor midfield anchored by Alpha Onyango. Substitutions from either side had little impact as Gor comfortably saw out the victory.

The result extends Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run to six matches and propels them to the top of the table, while Police suffer their first loss of the campaign—their first defeat to Gor since April 2023.

At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Shabana FC ended a five-match winless run with a gritty 1–0 victory over Ulinzi Stars, marking their first-ever win against the soldiers since returning to the top flight.

The decisive moment came in the 16th minute when Mark Okola pounced on a loose ball inside the box to give Tore Bobe the lead. Ulinzi, still adjusting under interim management following Dunstan Nyaudo’s departure, struggled to find rhythm despite dominating possession.

The hosts had a golden chance in the 65th minute when Danson Chetambe’s powerful strike rattled the woodwork, summing up a frustrating afternoon. Shabana endured multiple substitutions, including the late stretchered-off of Ezekiah Omuri, but their resilience held firm.

Four defeats in eight games

The result sees Ulinzi drop to four defeats in eight games, while Shabana climb to mid-table and regain much-needed confidence heading into the next round.

At the Green Stadium in Kericho, newcomers APS Bomet fought back to hold Mathare United to a 1–1 draw, courtesy of a late penalty converted by Hansel Ochieng.

Mathare had taken the lead through Eli Asieche, who calmly finished midway through the second half following a defensive lapse by the Black Berets. However, Bomet refused to give up and were rewarded in the dying minutes when substitute Ochieng converted from the spot, securing their first home point of the season.

Both sides remain near the bottom of the table and will view the result as an opportunity to regroup before their next fixtures.

Kakamega Homeboyz were held to a 1–1 draw by an improving Murang’a Seal side in a tightly contested match at Bukhungu Stadium.

Homeboyz started strongly, taking the lead in the 13th minute when Potiphar Odhiambo converted a penalty after Henry Omollo was brought down in the box. The hosts dominated proceedings, with Derrick Otanga twice going close—one effort ruled offside and another hitting the crossbar.

However, Murang’a Seal weathered the storm and equalised in the 72nd minute through Paul Ngugi, who reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the area. The visitors defended resolutely thereafter, frustrating Homeboyz despite sustained late pressure.

The result leaves Homeboyz second on the log, one point behind Gor.

In Mombasa, Bandari FC and KCB played out a 1–1 draw at Mbaraki Stadium. The bankers took the lead in the 65th minute through Boniface Omondi, who headed home from a Matthias Isogoli corner.

Bandari fought back valiantly, and deep into stoppage time, substitute Abdallah Hassan salvaged a point with a well-taken equaliser, ensuring the Dockers avoided a third consecutive home defeat.

The draw leaves both sides hovering just above the relegation zone, each on seven points, as they continue the search for consistency.
