Floods and heavy rains cause postponement of Ramadan Cup final

The New Eastleigh Primary Grounds have been rendered unplayable due to the heavy rains

The 2024 Ramadan Cup football tournament final match between Corner Legends and Gaza Stars has been postponed due to the heavy rains and floods experienced in Nairobi on Sunday evening.

The capital city has been experiencing hot days but the abrupt change of weather has rendered the pitch at the New Eastleigh Primary School unplayable.

"We have had to postpone the final because the pitch is so muddy right now," Feisal Mohammed told The Eastleigh Voice.

Feisal is a member of the New Isli Management, the body which has been organising the Ramadhan Cup.

"We are not sure when the final will be played but we will monitor the weather. We hope to have the game played on Wednesday or Thursday if it does not rain again," Feisal added.

The postponement of the final also affects the start of the Ramadhan Cup mini-tournament which was scheduled to start on Wednesday, a day after the final of the Ramadhan Cup main tournament.

The New Isli Management was to conduct the draw for the mini-tournament today but that process has also been on hold.

"We have also not been able to do the draw but we will communicate on when it will be done," Feisal said.
