Defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz cruised to the quarters after a solitary goal win over Tusker FC

Defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz have cruised to the 2024 FKF Cup quarterfinals after eliminating Tusker in a repeat of last year’s FKF Cup final. Abana Abeingo defeated the alemen 1-0 in a 3 pm kick-off match that was played at the Jomo Kenyatta Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday. Oliver Majak ensured Kakamega Homeboyz remained on course to defend their title with his 24th minute proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Kakamega Homeboyz will have to will now face KCB in the quarterfinals after the Bankers continued their dominance over Bidco United with a 3-1 win in one of the day’s other FKF Cup Round of 16 fixtures played at the Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi. KCB got the job done in the first half of the 12 pm kick-off with goals from Derrick Otanga (8thminute), Philemon Nyakwakwa (18th minute), and Haniff Wesonga (35th minute). Jacob Onyango pulled one back for Bidco United in the 86th minute but KCB had already done enough to secure victory.

In the day’s other FKF Cup matches which pit FKF PL teams against lower league teams, top flight clubs Kenya Police and Sofapaka emerged victorious in their contests against Mombasa Stars and Bungoma Stars respectively.

At the Police Sacco Stadium, Kenya Police came from behind to defeat their FKF NSL opponents 3-1 in a 3 pm kick-off. Alvin Ngoto had put Mombasa Stars ahead in the 9th minute but could not prevent the lawenforcers comeback after Tito Okello 24th minute equalizer was followed by an Alvin Mangeni goal in the 37th minute. Kenya Police led 2-1 at halftime and finished the job early in the second half with Tito Okello completing his brace in the 49th minute.

The victory earned Kenya Police another home tie in the FKF Cup as they will look to take advantage of home comforts once again when they meet Sofapaka in the quarterfinals. Sofapaka survived a scare from FKF Western Regional League side Bungoma Stars who looked on course to complete another giant-killing mission when they took a 2-0 first-half against the three-time champions when the two clubs clashed in a 12 pm kick-off at the Jomo Kenyatta Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu. Veteran footballer Meshack Karani put the home side in the 5th minute before Wycliffe Wanyonyi put the minnows in dreamland with his 38th minute goal. However, goals from the evergreen Humphrey Mieno (63rd minute) and Paul Odhiambo (71st minute) ensured the resurrection of Batoto ba Mungu who went on to win the tie 4-5 on penalties.
