Kenyan star Michael Olunga has written his name into Al Duhail’s history by becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer for the Qatari side. The Harambee Stars captain scored a pivotal goal on Friday evening against Al Shamal, taking his total to 121 goals for the Qatari side.
Michael Olunga, captain of Kenya's Harambee Stars, has secured his place in Al Duhail's history books. The 30-year-old forward scored a crucial goal on Friday evening, making him the club’s all-time leading scorer with 121 goals in all competitions. Remarkably, Olunga achieved this record within just three years of joining the Qatari club.
His record-setting goal came during Al Duhail’s dominant 6-2 victory over Al Shamal at Al-Khwar Stadium. Olunga also provided an assist later in the game. After Lucas Verissimo opened the scoring for Al Duhail in the 11th minute, Olunga quickly added a second, seizing onto a well-timed pass from Luis Alberto and firing a left-footed shot past Senegalese goalkeeper Babacar Seck.

Though Olunga was well-positioned to net a third, defender Mohammed Musa mistakenly redirected a cross into his own net, putting Al Duhail 3-0 up. Al Shamal managed to pull one back through Younes Belhanda, but Al Duhail’s Almoez Ali restored their lead, converting a penalty in first-half stoppage time.
In the second half, Luis Alberto added a fifth with a powerful shot that rebounded off the post before crossing the line. Baghdad Bounedjah later scored for Al Shamal, but Olunga set up Ali for a simple finish to complete Al Duhail’s six-goal haul.
This win gives Al Duhail a comfortable four-point lead over second-placed Al Sadd in the Qatar Stars League standings. Olunga’s strike on Friday marked his third consecutive goal, bringing his total to eight goals in just seven league matches this season.
